What Can I Make With Saltine Crackers
It appears I have a whole box of saltine crackers left in my pantry from over the holidays. They are still all sealed so they’re fresh, but I sure don’t foresee sitting down and snacking on that many crackers any time soon. I definitely need a little help with this one.
There are some casserole dishes I’ve eaten that have used saltines as the “base”. These recipes may have been family favorites because I have not come across any printed recipes that include saltines as part of a casserole. Have you ever designed a casserole dish that uses saltine crackers?
What are your thoughts about creating a “mock pie crust” for a chicken pot pie, perhaps by mixing in some egg? I know there must be some inventive ways to use up extra saltine crackers, but I sure need some help here! I’ll be anxious to hear from you.

saltine crackers are actually my secret ingredient in all types of batters. i know it is a faux pas to eat fried food but,we all know…
i grind up saltines and mix whatever herbs and spices in and use it to coat fried chicken, baked/fried pork, fish, etc. at a vegetarian level it can make for a good crisp coating on tofu or fried veggies.
cheers

My family has been doing this for years with Saltine crackers! First, you place the crackers on a cookie sheet with edges, but do not layer them! Then, heat 1 or 2 pounds of butter and mix with brown sugar and boil. When the brown sugar/butter mix is boiling, pour over the crackers in the edged cookie sheet. While the “toffee” is still boiling slightly, sprinkle chocolate chips on the top. When the chocolate chips are close to being liquid, spread. Let cool for an hour. Cut into squares and enjoy your Chocolate Toffee Bars!

Very tasty , thanks,
and I have here a recipe
Saltines (crackers)
2 sticks butter
2 c. brown sugar
12 oz. pkg. chocolate chips
Lay crackers side by side in 10″x15″ jelly roll pan (cookie sheet with edge).
Bring butter and sugar to boil and continue boiling until soft ball stage.
Pour toffee over crackers. Bake in 400 degree oven for 5 to 7 minutes. Watch carefully so doesn’t burn.
Sprinkle chips over toffee/crackers and return to oven for 30 seconds to melt. Cool to set and harden. Crack and enjoy.

Thank you everyone for your great input! I love the idea of turning saltines into a sweet treat. The combination of salt and sweet, especially chocolate, is always a marvelous taste treat. Thank you again!

I would just open a Tuna can, chop some tomato and some onion, maybe cilantro, some lemon juice and there you go, the perfect partner for the crackers.

That’s true too, instead of crushing them up and putting them into something, you can also make guacamole or another kind of dip for eating with the crackers. Great advice from everyone!
