What Can I Make With Pretzels

Filed under: Candy, Snacks — Susanne @ 8:00 am

Pretzels are one of those snacks that are always welcome in my house.  They are low in fat and taste really great!  So, what’s not to love?  I like the twisted shaped ones, the thin straight ones, and the fat ones.  They’re all welcome any time!

I’ve wondered what I could do with a whole bag of pretzels that would turn them into a really special treat for the whole family.  Yes, I’m happy to sit down with just an open bag of plain pretzels on my lap, but wouldn’t it be fun to have a big bowl of special pretzels for special days?  Think of game day or movie night…

I do like to make chocolate dipped pretzels on occasion.  They are simple to make – just follow the instructions on a bag of chocolate chips or melting chocolate coating to melt the chocolate, dip the pretzels in and lay on a piece of parchment paper to cool.  Put them in the refrigerator if you can’t wait.  The salty and sweet flavor is incredible.

Do you have any ideas for improving on the classic pretzel?

    I like this recipe

Dissolve yeast in warm water in bowl. Mix in egg yolk, honey, margarine and milk. Add salt and enough flour to make stiff dough.

Knead on floured surface for 5 minutes. Place in greased bowl, turning to grease surface. Let rise for 1 hour or until doubled in bulk.

Roll out on floured surface. Cut into 1-inch-wide strips. Fold strips in half. Roll into ropes. Shape into pretzels.

Place on baking sheet. Brush with a mixture of egg white and 1 tablespoon water. Sprinkle with coarse salt.

Bake at 425°F. for 15 to 20 minutes or until golden brown. Serve with mustard.

Hello, I guess you meant Bretzel and not Pretzel, didn´t you? Bretzels are the german speciality that will be eaten with beer.

It doesn´t matter which milk you take. I would always take a liquid one!

Its really amzing. I didn´t know that the english word for our german bretzel is pretzel. It´s a phonetical orthography of the original word. ;)

Nice to see that you like the pretzels too :)

I really love pretzels with white chocolate. Not easy to find here and kind of expensive but if I see them I have to get a bag.

I like to crush them up, melt some dark and/or white chocolate and mix in the crushed pretzels so it’s kind of thick. Then I drop them by Tablespoon onto parchment and let them dry. Great snack for family movie night.
