What Can I Make with HOT DOGS?

Filed under: Meats — Susanne @ 3:23 pm

I don’t eat much meat, and hadn’t eaten hot dogs for probably 10 years. Last week, my husband bought some Turkey Dogs from the grocery store that I really like. The kids love them, too.

I tried to get creative with them, but I’m just not coming up with any recipes or ideas other than slapping the hot dogs onto a bun and putting ketchup and mustard on it.

Any creative moms out there have tips for me? What can I make with HOT DOGS?

    Or

quartered warmed hot dogs added to Mac and Cheese with Peas mixed in and Extra cheddar. Yum. Served with any SIDE

Definitely Pigs in a Blanket… Oh I just loved these growing up and will begin with my girls when they get a little bit bigger.

2 (8-ounce) cans refrigerated quick crescent dinner rolls
    2 tablespoons mustard
    1 (16-ounce) hotdogs
    Ketchup, mustard, or prepared horseradish
    1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Working with one package of rolls at a time, separate dough into 8 triangles. Cut each triangle into thirds and spread with mustard. Place one hotdog on widest end of triangle and roll up tightly. Place on ungreased cookie sheet, point side down. Repeat with remaining dough and franks.

    2. Bake 12-15 minutes, or until golden brown. Serve warm with ketchup or mustard.

  3. Debbie Says:

You can make the hot dogs and flat noodles.

Cut up the hot dogs and mix together with noodles.

You can either put spices of your choice in it or
    put ketchup on it.

  4. Kelly Says:

Cut up the hot dogs, heat in a skillet till warm and add BBQ sauce to them. Kids seem to love these.

  5. Audrey Says:

One of my kids favorites is tempura hot dogs. We buy tempura batter, then coat the cut up hot dogs and fry. It’s been a favorite here for many years.

I LOVE Turkey Dog!!! What I do is cut them up in little pieces, and add them into your Fry Rice dish.

  7. Susanne Says:

    Make your own corn dogs

Fix a thin cornbread batter (by adding a little extra milk). Dip the hot dogs in them and fry or bake in the oven.

If you’d like you can even add a popsicle stick in one end of the hot dog.

  8. Lillian Says:

Here’s a thought: Why not buy the Pillsbury Croissant rolls and use them as a bun for your hot dog? Or you can take the croissant dough, lay it out in a square; flatten it with a rolling pin, then cut up the dogs and make “pigs in a blanket.”

  9. Tiffany Says:

My favorite things when i was a kid was mac and cheese with hod dogs on a bun. So what I do now is make the mac and cheese then slice hotdogs then brown them in a pan a lil. Then put it together. My nieces and nephews love it.

  10. Susan Says:

    Pizza dogs

Place hot dog in bun. Cut 3 slices of pepperoni in half and lay 1/2 pc. on each side of hotdog the length of the bun. Squeeze pizza sauce over hot dog, top with mozzarella or provolone cheese. Heat in microwave until hot dog is hot and cheese is melted. (About 40 seconds)

My kids love hot dogs and spaghetti. Just add some slices of hot dog to your tomato sauce and pour it over the cooked noodles. Yummy

[...] Once a month we get together with 5 other families that we’ve known since our kids were tiny. By now each of us has quite a few more kids and we have a nice cowd going. We meet at a local park and bring a picnic. This month’s theme for the food was hot dogs. Of course we grilled some of them and served them in buns, but I was suprised at all the other creative hot dog recipes everyone was coming up with. We had hot dog salad, macaroni and cheese with hot dogs and even a dessert hot dog made with hot dog buns, bananas and peanut butter. Yummy!!! [...]

I like hot dogs with a good crisp to them, and what better way than frying? Substitute thinly sliced hot dog in place of sausage, bacon, or ham with your eggs in the morning.

  14. Hunter Says:

This is the best hot dog creation me and my friend invented out of bordem and a poorly stocked fridge. If you have some time on your hands, try it out, you should have everything you need already. I should actually copyright this…oh well. Enjoy. Experiment.

Apple cider( Enough to boil hot dogs in a pan with)
*WARNING! Never substitute with apple juice

    Cinnamon – 2 Tablespoon

    Baking Soda – 1 1/2 Teaspoon

    Brown Sugar – 1/2 Cup

    Nutmeg – 1/2 Teaspoon

    Hot Dog Buns – 8
    (Try for Whole Wheat)

    Hot Dogs – 8
    ( Preferably Ball Park Franks)

    Milk – 1 Teaspoon

    Sweet relish – 1 cup

    Jack Daniels – 1 teaspoon
(Don’t worry, the alcohol boils away)

    Honey – 1 Tablespoon

-Take the hot dogs and boil in apple cider. In this case an eight pack. I prefer franks if your going to mix them in with something because they have less spices to compromise the flavor

-On the side, boil one cup of water in a wide pan.
You only need about a quarter inch of water deep.

-In a small pan, add the relish, rum and honey. Simmer on the lowest heat. Let Cook.

-Mix a tablespoon of cinnamon a teaspoon of baking soda and nutmeg into a teaspoon of apple cider.
It should be a thick paste. If not, add a little more of each dry ingredient.
(When doing everything else, you can keep the dogs on extremely low heat or even off, depending on how fast you cook)

-After you boil the water in the frying pan, add the cinnamon mixture and stir together

-Allow it to boil out the water( It sounds like you boiled the water for nothing but it actually makes the soda bond to the cinnamon)

-At the same time, if your dogs were off heat, get them going

-Cook the dogs until they crack on the side, when they do, add the brown sugar quickly.

-Just spin the dogs with a fork to mix the brown sugar, don’t flip everything around, trust me, that stuff gets hot.

-After the dogs are done(cooking in the cider/brown sugar for about three minutes) just turn off the heat and cover the pan. They will stay plenty hot.

-Start heating up another frying pan

-Open bun all the way and place face down in the frying pan mixture ( just like french toast) then take out and fry in the other pan until its not wet anymore

-Almost done. Add a dog to the finished but and literally smash together. If you do not do this, the moisture will not spread through the whole bun. But it doesn’t matter.

-Finally, top the dog with the sweet spiced relish.

Broken down, this creation is sweet, spicy and tangy with a little kick citrus. For how long it takes to cook, it is more worth it to double the recipe for company or a party, but either way, you can manipulate the recipe easily if you don’t like a certain flavor.

  15. carol horner Says:

i cut hotdogs in slices, fry in butter than when brown i add milk, than i thicken it with corn starch yummy on mased potatoes or butter bread or noodles called creamed hotdogs.

  16. Sheena Says:

On a low budget, I like to fry up diced hotdogs in our country potatoes in the mornings for some breakfasts. Or fry it up alongside some fried eggs in place of sausage or bacon, and/or eat with a warm corn tortilla like a breakfast taco. Yumm. I also make hot dogs in pasta like macaroni and cheese or an alfredo-like pasta dish. You can also have chili cheese dogs, pour chili and cheese over a hot dog in a hot dog bun. Pigs in a blanket are always scrumptious, and as an alternative to some posts using croissant dough, you can use bisquick to make biscuit batter and use that instead, and can even mix in a little (or a lot) of cheese to the bisquit dough for more flavor.

  17. Maria Says:
