What Can I Make With Ground Beef?
Ground beef of one sort or another almost always seems to be on sale at one of the stores in town. It’s also usually one of the cheapest meats to buy and pretty versatile. I usually keep a few packs of it in my freezer and use them for anything from burgers and meatloaf to spaghetti with meat sauce, but to be hones, we are starting to get a little tired of the same standard hamburger dishes.
I’m looking for some fresh recipes and ideas that use ground beef – will you help me and my family out? Please post your favorite recipes as a comment below.

Preheat oven to 425 degrees F.
For the Dough:
2 (6.5-ounce) packages pizza crust mix (recommended: Betty Crocker)
2 teaspoons Italian seasoning (recommended: McCormick’s)
1 cup hot water
For the Filling:
1 tablespoon oil
1/2 pound lean ground beef
1/2 pound hot Italian sausage, casings removed
1 (2.5-ounce) jar sliced mushrooms, drained (recommended: Green Giant)
1 (2.25-ounce) can sliced black olives, drained (recommended: Early California)
2 1/2 cups marinara sauce, divided (recommended: Prego)
2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese (recommended: Kraft)
For the dough:
In a large mixing bowl, combine pizza crust mixes, Italian seasoning, and hot water. Stir about 20 times until a ball forms. Split ball in half and cover each with plastic wrap; set aside.
For the filling:
In a large frying pan over medium-high heat, add the oil and cook ground beef and sausage, stirring frequently to break up clumps. Cook until no longer pink but not totally cooked through, about 4 minutes. Remove from heat and stir in mushrooms, olives, cheese and 1 cup of the marinara sauce; set aside.
Unwrap dough and put onto 2 parchment lined baking sheets sprinkled with cornmeal. Press out into 2 (12-inch) circles about 1/4-thick; pinch together any holes. Spoon the meat mixture into center of each dough round. Slide the second dough circle off the parchment to top the meat mixture. Crimp the edges together.
Warm the remaining marinara sauce in the microwave. Spoon some sauce on the plate and serve a hot slice of pizza on top.
Lightly spray baking sheet with cooking spray; Place on prepared baking sheet and bake in preheated oven for 20 to 25 minutes or until golden brown.

This is easy and cheap to make. I take out the mushrooms if I am making it for the kids. I made it “skiney” once with Lean Ground Beef, fat free sour cream and mayo. I liked it but it just wasn’t the same!
Ground Beef Stroganoff
1 pound ground beef
1 can mushrooms, drained
1/2 teaspoon mustard powder
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
1 cup sour cream
2 tablespoons mayonnaise
1/2 cup beef broth
1 (16 ounce) package wide egg noodles
In a skillet, add ground beef, mustard and garlic powder. Cook until meat is browned, stirring occasionally. Drain fat. Stir in sour cream, mayonnaise, and beef broth and cook over low heat for 10 to 15 minutes. Serve over hot noodles. Cook pasta in a large pot of boiling water until done. Drain. Serve sauce over hot noodles.

Another thing you can do with ground beef is brown it and add it to some rice. (our favorite is Jasmine Rice)
fry some chopped onions and add those. Season to taste! Salt, pepper, whatever. We like to use some Italian Seasoning. It gives it a nice flavor!
Keep posting and I will keep coming back!

Tamale casserole is one of my kids favorite. (My wife and I love it too)
1 lb hamburger
1 package of frozen tamales
2 cans of chili con carne
2 cans of corn
2 cans of tomato sauce
1 bag of Fritos
Cheese
– Fry up the hamburger. (salt and pepper as you would like)
– Mix the hamburger, chili, corn, and tomato sauce.
– Line a casserole dish with tamales cut in half length wise and the inside of the tamale facing up. (You will likely not use the entire package. We generally buy 2 packages and get 3 casseroles out of the 2 packages.)
– cover the tamales with the above mixture
– cover that with grated cheese (as much as you would like)
– top it off with crushed Fritos and bake in the oven at 350 for about 20-30 minutes.
Enjoy! We like to use ketchup on it, but that is up to you.

I think the 21 Club recipe has got to be one of the best things you can do with ground beef…
21 Club Hamburger recipe
The humble hamburger deserves a place on any “20th Century American Classics” menu, being a 20th century invention (according to most sources), and an icon of American culture worldwide, thanks to those awful imitations of the real thing being sold by the billions every day. New York’s famous “21″ Club introduced what must be the world’s most expensive hamburger in 1975, which they served “nude” (without bun or bread), and which devotees immediately pronounced “the best burger in the world.” When it was removed from their menu in 1996 it sold for $21.40 at lunch and a whopping $24 at dinner. Here is a classy version of an American classic, adapted from “The “21″ Cookbook” by Michael Lomonoco:
1/4 cup finely chopped celery
1/4 cup chicken broth
2 pounds ground top sirloin
1/4 cup bread crumbs
1/2 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
Salt and freshly ground pepper to taste
3 tablespoons butter
Combine the celery and chicken broth in a small saucepan over very low heat and poach the celery for 20 minutes.
Drain the celery and cool.
Combine the celery with the remaining ingredients except the butter, mixing well with your hands. Gently shape into 4 large patties, being careful not to compact the meat any more than necessary.
Heat the butter in a large, heavy skillet over moderate heat until the butter is amber in color. Brown the burgers 6 minutes on each side, then place the skillet in a preheated 350 degree F oven for 6 to 8 minutes for medium rare, a few additional minutes for better done.
Enjoy it!
