Buy the pre ground stuff unless you have a spice grinder… and are willing to deal with flax FLUFF flying everywhere. It’s so light and loose the moment you open the grinder it gets everywhere.

you also need to increase your liquid if you add ground flax to the recipe as it absorbs a lot of moisture. Store flax in fridge up to 3 months, airtight.

I’ve tried using flax seed meal and water as an egg substitute for veggie burgers, but I did not like how it turned out. They were mushy and frankly pretty gross. I think an egg would have bound the ingredients more. I’ll have to give it another try though with a different water-flax seed ratio, because I really like the idea of not having to use eggs.

I do put ground flax seeds on my oatmeal every morning – nutty and delicious.

I have heard about flax seeds and how healthy they are but, I really didn’t try them out, because I didn’t know what to do with them. Indeed, most people eat them with cereals; next time I’ll go to supermarket I’ll search for them.

Flax seeds are pretty good. I actually don’t like the taste that much.

But when I force myself to eat them, I love to put them in my protein smoothies and in cereal. You can also put them on sandwiches and almost anything.

I’ll tell you one thing. Don’t get the flax seed oil… it is really disgusting!

ive never seen or heard of a flax seed.. it would have been better if you had posted the picture of the said seed.. does it look like an oatmeal? im curious about it, gotta check the net on it..

Thanks for the excellent article on flax seed meal – especially the suggestion of adding it to recipes as an egg substitute. As flax seed is such a good source of Omega-3 it’s a great way for vegans (or anyone who avoids fish oil) to include more Omega-3 in their diet too.
