What Can I Make With BUTTER?

Filed under: Dairy — Susanne @ 4:46 pm

I know it’s a common ingredient in many many recipes, however, I’m looking for simple, quick and easy things I can make with butter.

Obviously, this isn’t a diet section. ;) Just assume I found a great sale on butter and diet is not as issue. What can I make with all this butter?

English Shortbread! It’s really good with hot tea.
Mix two sticks butter with 1/2 cup sugar, cream well.
    Add 2 1/2 cups flour.
Put into two rounds on a baking sheet and bake at 300 F for 30 minutes.

    Monkey Bread
    3 (10-ounce) cans refrigerated biscuits
    1/2 cup butter, melted
    1 cup granulated sugar
    3/4 cup brown sugar, (packed)
    1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
1/4 cup finely chopped nuts (optional)
    Preheat oven to 350
Spread 1 to 2 tablespoons butter in the bottom of a 2-quart casserole dish.
Combine sugar, brown sugar, cinnamon, nuts (if using) in a brown or plastic bag.
Quarter each biscuit with a pair of kitchen scissors. Drop a handful of the quartered biscuits into the sugar mixture and shake to coat well. Layer prepared casserole dish with half the quartered biscuits. Drizzle with 2 to 3 tablespoons butter. Layer remaining biscuits.
Mix remaining butter with remaining sugar mixture in the bag and crumble over top layer of biscuits.
Bake for 45 minutes or until done. This is best eaten warm.

We make 1-2 batches of old-fashioned oatmeal cookies a week. The kids love them and they are a healthy snack.

We use the recipe on the box of Quaker oatmeal. Here are our secrets to perfect cookies:

Omit the cinnamon. Use real butter. Use old-fashioned oats instead of quick cooking oats. Use real vanilla not imitation. Bake for 10 minutes…these cookies are inhaled!

We go through a lot of butter :)

Soften a stick of butter and add a tblsp. of honey, a tblsp. of dried cranberries and a tsp. of grated orange rind. Mix well and use as a spread on toasted english muffins, waffles or freshly baked muffins.

    Garlic Butter

Soften the butter. Add some chopped garlic to taste, a little salt some sweet paprika powder and a splash of lemon juice. Use a for to mash everything together. Spoon the mixture into a small serving dish and return it to the fridge to harden.

Serve with warm toast or frensh bread as an appetizer, with pasta or salad.

Since I am not a garlic fan, my favorite treat of all is a large loaf of Italian bread smeared with butter, and toasted in the over! OMG……

I love butter and use it alot. My favorite thing to do with butter is sauces. Start with 3 tablespoons butter add 2 cups of heavy whipping cream. After that you can add a can of stewed tomatoes and a teaspoon of garlic and a teaspoon of oragano all in a sauce pan let boil and stir constantly til all butter is melted and the sauce is warm then throw it over some pasta, a dip for italian bread, over some cooked chicken breast,in some shrimp, or make alot of it and store in a container for later. It can be used on or in a wide variety of things.

Butter cookies! This recipe is from my own grandmother’s cookbook “Grandma Kunert’s Favorite Recipes” 1992. She passed away in 1999 and will always be remembered for the hot, soft butter cookies she made us every time we visited! I make them occassionally and my kids love them as much as I do.

    1 pound butter
    2 cups sugar
    4 cups flour
    2 teaspoons vanilla
3/4 c finely chopped nuts (optional or any type you like!)

    Cream butter and sugar together.
    Add flour, vanilla, and nuts.
Dip into batter with teaspoon or tablespoon according to size of cookie desired.
Roll batter into a ball, press down with a glass dipped in sugar.
Bake at 350, 15-20 minutes or until lightly brown.

Enjoy. Best if served warm with milk!
