What Can I Make With Baby Food - Jar of Spinach?

Filed under: Baby Food, Baby/Toddler, Main — Susanne @ 6:49 am

This may sound like a totally freakish question, but… here goes. :)

When my kids were toddlers, I’d end up with 1/2 eaten jars of baby food that they didn’t necessarily like. Then, they decided they were *big* and only wanted to eat real food. So, I was stuck with a bunch of baby food veggie jars.

So, I’m going to go through some typical baby foods and see if anyone would like to admit they’ve used it in cooking (wouldn’t want to be wasteful) and … if you had anything turn out great that you’d like to share.

So, first stop is Baby Food Spinach. No matter which kind you used, or if you made your own baby food…

What can a mom, stuck with jars of baby spinach make with them?

I make an awesome spinach casserole. One evening, I noticed three opened, 1/3-eaten jars of spinach in my refrigerator(don’t ask me how or why). Not knowing which one I had opened last or how long they had been opened, I was too scared to give them to my 3-month old son. So I added them to my casserole-a combination of cooked spinach, butter and cream cheese. I added more salt and pepper than I normally do and baked at 350 for 20 minutes. To my amazement, it was just as good as it always is. Not only was I proud of myself for not wasting food or feeding it to my baby, but I never told my husband about it and he went back for a second helping!

Check out this website I found about making container candles from baby food jars.

add it to your favorite pasta sauce… works especially well to make a pesto a little “wetter” without adding too much oil or to turn an alfredo into a spinach cream sauce, adds iron to soups and stews with some salt and pepper the darkness of the green should add a hearty tone to anything that’s already slightly liquidous

Try Spinach dip. There are many great recipes out there that have spinach in them.

you can sneak an entire half cup of spinach into desserts like blueberry bars and brownies and you can’t even taste it.at the same time you are giving your child a serving of vegetables. see jessica seinfeld’s cookbook, Deceptively Delicious. Of course, she has you making all the purees by hand but you still get plenty of nutrients from the jarred stuff!
